Dr. Lindsay Starosta

Clinical & School Psychologist

Dr. Lindsay Starosta puts a special focus on empowering individuals to see themselves as strong, capable, and resilient.

Dr. Starosta has extensive experience working with youth presenting with various clinical needs, including learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma, depression, and ADHD. Her approach to therapy involves building a strong rapport with children and adolescents, integrating their unique strengths and interests into the evidence-based therapy she provides. She is trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT).

Dr. Starosta believes in taking the time to build rapport with clients, both in assessment and therapy. She frequently uses clients' interests within treatment, ensuring that clients are fully engaged in the therapeutic process. By integrating her clients’ interests and history into her sessions, she is able to dive deeper and use methods that are individually tailored for better understanding and progress. Her goal when working with clients is to meet them where they are at, giving them the tools they need to expand their coping skills. By empowering them to grow in a nurturing environment, she is able to help them see that their life has value and is worth living.

Her training has given her a biopsychosocial lens to conceptualize cases, giving her a better understanding of the different elements that have come together to impede learning. By integrating this information within her assessments, she is able to gain a better understanding of each client’s experiences and potential, allowing her to provide more meaningful recommendations that will be beneficial to each individual.

Aside from her clinical work, Dr. Starosta also conducts research investigating individual and contextual factors that contribute to bullying and victimization. She is currently collaborating with international bullying researchers on a study based on her dissertation study, which looked at how high school teachers interpret and respond to identity-based bullying.

With her focus on empowering individuals, building strong rapport, and utilizing clients' strengths and interests in therapy, she is committed to helping her clients achieve their full potential.
