Thusa Maheswaran
Social Worker
Thusa uses a client-centred approach and evidence-based practices to teach effective coping skills to her clients.
Meet Thusa Maheswaran - a registered social worker who believes in meeting clients where they are at. With over 7 years of experience in mental health, Thusa draws from various evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Mindfulness, to provide culturally-sensitive and trauma-informed care in Tamil and English.
Thusa's passion for mental health and wellness stems from her personal experience as a first-generation Tamil Canadian. She understands the importance of representation and takes pride in breaking generational patterns and normalizing therapy as a form of strength. Her favourite thing about this line of work is seeing clients utilize skills and recognize their progress. She also takes joy in breaking down stigma and normalizing therapy for people of colour.
As a therapist, Thusa likes to focus on managing symptoms of depression and anxiety, learning coping tools to manage life stressors, providing support for returning to work or school, and meeting clients where they are at. She creates a safe and comfortable space for her clients and helps support their goals without imposing her own.
In her free time, you’ll find Thusa reading, watching TV shows such as Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings & anything from Shondaland, and practicing gratitude.
Thusa's approach to therapy is rooted in her client-centred approach and theoretical practices, and she strives to teach effective coping skills while providing a safe and welcoming environment. If you're looking for a therapist who will support you in achieving your goals, Thusa will be by your side every step of the way.
